Project overview
The Challenge is a mobile wellness platform that motivates employees to stay active through individual and team-based challenges. While users often started enthusiastically, engagement dropped after the first week. The goal was to redesign the experience to keep users returning throughout the entire challenge by making progress visible, rewarding, and easy to act on.

Challenge
The project focused on increasing user retention by making daily progress more meaningful.
Key objectives
Increase 30-day user retention
Encourage daily app usage
Simplify the dashboard hierarchy
Surface the next best action
Make achievements and rewards more motivating
Research
To understand why users stopped engaging with the app, I collaborated with stakeholders to define the product goals and identify the biggest retention challenges. I reviewed the existing experience, analysed user behaviour, and benchmarked gamified wellness platforms to understand how they motivated users to return consistently.
The research highlighted three recurring themes: users struggled to understand their progress, lacked motivation after the first week, and often didn't know what action to take next. These insights became the foundation for the redesign.
Process
The project followed an iterative product design process focused on improving long-term engagement.
Discovery
I explored the existing experience, aligned with stakeholders on product objectives, and identified opportunities to improve user retention throughout the 30-day challenge.
Competitive Analysis
I analysed comparable fitness and wellness products, focusing on gamification, progress tracking, habit-building mechanics, and dashboard hierarchy to understand what keeps users engaged over time.
Ideation & Wireframing
Multiple dashboard concepts were explored to prioritise progress, challenges, rewards, and next actions. Early wireframes helped validate the information hierarchy before moving into visual design.
Prototyping & Iteration
Interactive prototypes were reviewed with stakeholders and refined through continuous feedback. The final solution balanced business goals with a simple, motivating user experience that encouraged users to return every day.
